online radio series Jazzed and Blue: Profiles in
Blues and Jazz is back and is now available for download at
Rockwired.com. Todays' edition is a best of restrospective featuring
music and exclusive interviews with baritone saxophonist Brian Landrus
of The Landrus Kaliedoscope, multi-instrumental composer Kenny Love and singer
songwriter Barbara Martin. Brian
Landrus is a once
in a generation musician, and Capsule, the new album
by his captivating electro-acoustic quintet The Landrus Kaleidoscope,
offers a sonically expansive body of music that displays his
melodically charged vision. A master of low-frequency
instruments, Landrus
has found a highly personal voice on baritone saxophone, bass clarinet
and bass flute, axes with relatively few champions. While making few
overt references to R&B, "Capsule" explores Landrus' love of
soul-infused grooves, seamlessly folding the lyrical hooks and tight
structures of funk and Motown and Caribbean rhythmic currents into
spacious jazz settings. Kaleidoscope brings together a stellar cast of
musicians including Michael Cain on Fender Rhodes, piano (and electric
bass on one track), rising guitar star Nir Felder, acoustic bassist
Matthew Parish and drummer extraordinaire Rudy Royston, a highly sought
after player whose recent credits include albums with Bill Frisell,
J.D. Allen, Ben Allison, Bruce Barth and Ron Miles. While the band's
name could lead one to expect an eclectic session investigating
constantly shifting sonic panoramas, the album possesses a remarkably
cohesive feel. The
multi-talented, multifaceted
entertainer Kenny Love has performed with several bands
over the
years, including The Lights of Soul (1976), Instant Function
(1976-1978), Just
Us & Duane (1982), High Rise (1984-1985), Nightwynd (1987), and
The
Wall of
Jazz (2009). In 1984, he was signed by the notable major label
R&B
producer
Aubrey "Skip" Gravatt, after Gravatt, also credited with having
discovered disco queen Evelyn Champagne King, heard one of Kenny’s
studio
recordings. The major label deal never materialized, however, due to
Mr. Gravatt's
untimely death. Until 2011, Kenny had released no albums as a solo
artist, but
did release three R&B/Dance singles as a solo artist, entitled
All
Of My
Love and Just Want To Dance (With You)
in 1991 and Vampire Love in 2003, all of which received international
accolades. Recently he released the mesmerizing track titled Voyage to
Serenity
- the very first single off of his debut CD Case Sensitive.

sound was developed after
I discovered the amazing 'coloring' that can be affected and executed
via
inverted 7th, 9th, and 11th chords within a musical composition.”  Named one
of ten worthy jazz singers by Jazziz Magazine and garnering a Parent’s
Choice Silver Honor Award for her children’s recording From Ragtime to
Rock and Roll, Barbara has recorded and produced eight albums
including her latest release Eyes on the Horizon. Barbara has been
writing and performing original songs since her teen years, when even
then a high school rock band took notice of a song she performed at a
talent show and asked to use it. Since those early beginnings she has
won numerous awards, the latest a Silver Award in the Vocal Blues and
Jazz category at the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for her song
"Kaleidoscope,” and she has placed songs with other artists and in TV
